Peacock Mantis Spider Acrylic Painting - Sold

6 x 6

Acrylic on canvas

The last of the shrimp / spider paintings. This one is based on the peacock mantis shrimp, it's a pretty wild lookin' critter. I have to admit I'm relieved to be done with these, I think I tend to get 'stale' when doing similar works consecutively. Next up I'll be doing five paintings for a 'pay it forward' 'facebook thing' how's that for descriptive? :)

Struggles... WIP

I have been working on this far longer than I work on most... those anemones have been painted and repainted until I finally came close... You are only learning if what you're doing isn't comfortable, right?  Then I'm learning a butt-load :). This obviously needs more work, but I thought I'd throw it up as an explanation why there have been no new posts for awhile. I'm not slacking, I'm just too stubborn to give up and do something easy :).

If any of you wonderful artists reading this have any suggestions/critiques I would be more than happy to receive them.

And have a happy new year everyone!

Productivity at work and Facebook pages after death

Co-worker turned me on to J. J. Grandville (aka Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard)'s work today and in the great google search for specimens of his work I came across his Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/J-J-Grandville-Jean-Ignace-Isidore-Gerard/33633278415  Neat stuff there including this...

How cool is that??? Ok, I admit to a mantis fetish but go check out his stuff.  So I'm loving the idea and of course have to draw one myself so I spent some work time doodling my own victorian mantis.

I'd love to start painting it when I get home tonight or at least finish the drawing... however if I'm going to be a good disciplined girl I'll finish the 3 other paintings I've started first, right?..... wanna take bets on that ?? :)
